Claudio Spies (b. Santiago, Chile, 1925 - 2020) lived in the U.S. almost continuously since arriving to study music in 1942, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1966. He held degrees from Harvard and taught there, as well as Vassar, Swarthmore, the Salzburg Seminar in American Studies, and Princeton. He was the recipient of several awards, including a grant from the Ingram Merrill Foundation, a Brandeis university Creative Arts Award Citation in Music, an award from The National Institute of Arts and Letters, and a Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
