New World Records was founded in 1975 with a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, with a mandate to produce a 100-disc anthology of American music encompassing the broadest possible spectrum of musical genres. In 1978 the Anthology was completed and distributed free of charge to almost 7,000 educational and cultural institutions throughout the world.
Over time, the licenses on some titles (Georgia Sea Island Songs among them) expired. As a consequence this release is no longer available for purchase from New World, but, as with all our titles, you may review audio samples and access the liner notes free of charge. Full audio all the Alan Lomax-produced recordings originally released on New World are also now available for reference and review via the Association for Cultural Equity website (http://research.culturalequity.org/home-audio.jsp).
